The Lanzarote landscape provides a starting point for an emblematic intervention in the municipality and the island. The volcano, prevailing winds, picón (volcanic ash) and jable (volcanic sand); the colour of the hills and powerful presence of volcanic stone are markers of local identity. Indeed, these materials and textures are deeply embedded in local culture.

The singularity of these territorial traits as well as certain interventions that have shaped the landscape with force and expressiveness are references for this setting. Its magnitude is such that it requires a determined attitude. Thus, geometric manipulations like those carried out in La Geria, the chromatic grid of the Janubio salt flats, the torn rock of Las Maretas in Arrecife, or the fragmented expressiveness of rural plot divisions are stimulating precedents that have effectively modified the island’s geography.

We propose a tectonic manipulation of the plot to integrate the project in the new topography that emerges from locational conditions (prevailing winds, sun exposure, and access). This resolute intervention avoids the repartition of volumes across the landscape, focusing instead on a unifying gesture that encompasses all the project’s requirements.
